UW Equestrian Team

The 2010-2011 show season is upon us! All UW-Madison undergrads are invited to come to the first meeting and find out why UWET is this campus' most fun and competitive team. Goodbye Zone 9, Region 3. UWET is now a part of the all-new Zone 7, Region 4. The IHSA has experienced explosive growth in recent years, and as a result, regions and zones have become increasingly larger geographically. In an attempt to retain the tradition of affordable horse showing for every aspiring competitor, the IHSA exec board has rearranged the map in order to cut down on travel times for horse shows. UWET therefore will need to be as versatile as ever this season, as we will be competing against many schools that we are not familiar with.

A tentative schedule for the 2010-2011 show season has been set. Initial meetings as well as tryouts have been determined. Further details on these meetings, such as time and location, will be provided as the dates approach. A complete show schedule will be posted as soon as it is determined by the region and host schools. For now, check out current dates under the Show Schedule tab.

Both of our Zones Riders, Emily St. Aubin and Lauren Zappitelli, rode very well at Northern Illinois University, but unfortunately they were both just short of qualifying for Nationals. Emily got 3rd place in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, and Lauren got 4th place in Open Equitation on the Flat. In order to qualify for the National Horse Show, one must achieve either 1st or 2nd place. Congratulations Lauren and Emily on your successes this show season and thank you for being admirable representatives of UWET!

The UWET Year-End Banquet is this weekend! It will be held on Saturday the 24th at the Edgewater Hotel. Cocktails begin at 6 pm and dinner will be served at 7. The highlights of the evening will be awards presentations, senior gifts, and of course, a slideshow featuring team members and UWET events from this season. Attire is semi-formal, so don't be afraid to dress up! Please make sure with Emily St. Aubin that your dinner order is correct, and let her know if you can help out with decorations.

Remember that the Midwest Horse Fair is this weekend! All team members are encouraged to go and check out the educational demonstrations and clinics, as well as the awesome shopping! There is a used tack sale in the basement of the Coliseum held by the Wisconsin 4-H Horse Association. This is a great place to get show clothes and riding apparel if you are on a budget. If you would prefer to get new items, check out the endless vendors in the Exhibition Hall.
